Xiaomi Reportedly Testing Android 9 Pie on the Poco F1
The Poco F1, Xiaomi’s ultra-budget flagship, has taken the world by
storm thanks to its powerful specifications in a relatively affordable
package. Other than providing the best price to performance ratio in the
market, the Poco F1
was also Xiaomi’s first phone running MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Furthermore, at the launch event the company also promised an update to
Android 9 Pie in the near future, making the handset a must-buy for
anyone looking for the absolute best performance at a reasonable price.
It seems like the Android 9 Pie update for the Poco F1 isn’t too far away as a unit running Android 9 has recently been spotted on Geekbench. According to a recent report from Mysmartprice, a Poco F1 running Android 9 has now surfaced on Geekbench, which suggests that Xiaomi is in advanced stages of testing the new build. However, the benchmark results of the Poco F1 running Android 9 aren’t as impressive as that of the unit running Android 8.1 Oreo, which leads us to believe that the build isn’t quite ready yet.
As per the Geekbench listing, the Poco F1 running Android 9 Pie manages to score 2046 and 7520 points in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. In contrast, the Poco F1 running Android 8.1 Oreo that we tested managed to score 2426 and 8979 points in the same tests. So, if this is the official MIUI build we’re talking about, then Xiaomi still has a lot to do before it reaches an optimal level for a global release. In any case, the Xiaomi Poco F1 is expected to receive the Android 9 Pie update sometime in Q4 2018, we just hope the release comes sooner than later.
